The Only Benefit Of Living In A Sick Society


According to some ancient commentaries, Yoga is best practiced in nations where everyone has access to peace, prosperity, and freedom…societies where all people are guaranteed the means to thrive and to coexist with fellow well-adjusted and conscientious citizens, under ethical and competent leaders, so that they can concentrate on noble endeavors.

When I read this suggestion one winter evening, I had to shake my head before bursting into laughter (in order to save myself from tears).

Unfortunately, most current societies are far from even healthy enough places to live amongst the mal-adjusted people and “leaders” who exist within them, which means that you will have to do the best that you can with what you have, since, contrary to some myths, literal future lives/births are not proven to exist beyond your current body and/or active imagination.

It is recommended, therefore, that you consistently practice Tapas along with never neglecting your Yamas or Niyamas: remember, please, that you can use everything that you observe (and the pain that comes from any of it) as purification. You do this diligently and consistently while also focusing on what is good.

This will support you to stay safe/pure in spirit and sane/uncorrupted in mind out there in our imperfect world.

Keep practicing Yoga because you live in an insane society.

Because your society is insane, you will have plenty of opportunities to practice, and plenty of scenarios in which to test your progress.
